9/24/2023 0 Comments Grammarly ad scriptWe learned that our AI writing detection scores under 20% have a higher incidence of false positives. This is inconsistent behavior, and we will continue to test to understand the root cause. Added an additional indicator for documents with less than 20% AI writing detected.Based on the results of these tests, we made the below updates to our model in May to ensure we hold steadfast on our objective of keeping our false positive rate below 1% for a document. Since the launch of our solution in April, we tested 800,000 academic papers that were written before the release of ChatGPT. We will continue to adapt and optimize our model based on our learnings from real-world document submissions, and as large language models evolve to ensure we maintain this less than 1% false positive rate. We’re committed to safeguarding the interests of students while helping institutions maintain high standards of academic integrity. For example, if we identify that 50% of a document is likely written by an AI tool, it could contain as much as 65% AI writing. We’re comfortable with that since we do not want to incorrectly highlight human-written text as AI-written. In order to maintain this low rate of 1% for false positives, there is a chance that we might miss 15% of AI written text in a document. To bolster our testing framework and diagnose statistical trends of false positives, in April 2023 we performed additional tests on 800,000 additional academic papers that were written before the release of ChatGPT to further validate our less than 1% false positive rate. In other words, we might flag a human-written document as AI-written for one out of every 100 fully-human written documents. We strive to maximize the effectiveness of our detector while keeping our false positive rate - incorrectly identifying fully human-written text as AI-generated - under 1% for documents with over 20% of AI writing. We are actively working on expanding our model to enable us to better detect content from other AI language models. Because the writing characteristics of GPT-4 are consistent with earlier model versions, our detector is able to detect content from GPT-4 (ChatGPT Plus) most of the time. ![]() Using the average scores of all the segments within the document, the model then generates an overall prediction of how much text in the submission we believe has been generated by AI.Ĭurrently, Turnitin’s AI writing detection model is trained to detect content from the GPT-3 and GPT-3.5 language models, which includes ChatGPT. ![]() If it determines the entirety of the sentence was generated by AI it will receive a score of 1. If our model determines that a sentence was not generated by AI, it will receive a score of 0. The segments are run against our AI detection model and we give each sentence a score between 0 and 1 to determine whether it is written by a human or by AI. Those segments are then overlapped with each other to capture each sentence in context. ![]() ![]() When a paper is submitted to Turnitin, the submission is first broken into segments of text that are roughly a few hundred words (about five to ten sentences). If your bike uses a thru-axle, you’ll also need a trainer-specific one like the Tacx E-Thru-Axle, Kinetic Traxel, or a Robert Axle Project Trainer thru-axle. ![]() We’d also recommend buying the most inexpensive wheel you can find, that way you’re not trying to swap tires around before you hop on the trainer. They can be pretty hard to find, especially in MTB sizes, so a cheap slick will suffice. Speaking of tires you’re also going to want a trainer tire like the Tacx Trainer Tire or Vittoria Zaffiro Pro Home Trainer Tire which uses a hard compound to prolong life and limit noise. ![]() Because your drivetrain isn’t directly connected to the trainer, the power readings aren’t quite as accurate also the tire needs to warm up and you’ll need to complete a spin-down calibration. Similar to their direct-drive cousins, these trainers have electronics built-in, with the same connectivity designed to work with apps and create an interactive ride. Wheel-on smart trainers grab your bike by the rear axle and press a roller drum against the tire to create resistance. Most smart trainers are ANT+, ANT+ FEC and Bluetooth enabled and speak the same language as apps like Zwift, TrainerRoad, and The Sufferfest to provide interactive resistance. Inside they will have a resistance unit and a power meter that’s controlled by an app, so if your workout calls for 200 watts, it will make you pedal 200 watts. There are three types of indoor trainers: direct-drive smart trainers, wheel-on smart trainers, and wheel-on dumb trainers.ĭirect-drive smart trainers have their own cassette and see your bike attached to the unit itself without the rear wheel. What are the different types of trainers? Riding indoors removes all the variables and allows you to complete structured workouts more efficiently if a workout calls for you to do 320w for 10 minutes, there are no hills, rollers, rock gardens, or downed trees in the way and the only thing stopping you from hitting your targets is your legs. It can be downright dangerous not only for yourself, but also for those around you - plus, it’s a fantastic way to ruin an entertaining bit of trail. The best way to get fitter is by doing structured interval sessions that are designed to push specific systems of your physiology the trouble is that doing intervals and hitting specific power targets on singletrack is not really all that feasible. Mountain biking is so much more enjoyable when you’re fit, and if you have more matches to burn getting up that techy climb, you will have that much more to give on the descent. ![]() How to choose the best MTB smart trainer Why should you train indoors? It's also pretty quiet too so you can train in the mornings or evenings without the fear of disturbing the neighbors. The unit's design is well thought out too including foldable legs and a carry handle to make moving and storage much easier. The two percent power accuracy is good as well and offers enough accuracy to efficiently train or explore virtual worlds and the integrated speed and cadence meter gives smooth transitions between resistance levels. The Saris H3 smart trainer definitely undercuts a lot of the competition on price yet with heavy flywheel assures a realistic ride feel and the max incline and max wattage easily match more expensive trainers. 9/24/2023 0 Comments Foot numbing cream![]() If you're an artist interested in using anesthetic cream and you tattoo wet, consider swapping out your glide of choice for the anesthetic cream. Let it sit for a couple minutes before washing the skin once again, and then you can get right back to tattooing! Anesthetic cream doesn't care about ink and blood. Don't worry about the ink and blood on the skin. Instead apply more anesthetic cream directly onto the skin. Don't wash the skin again with soap and water - this will make your skin more sensitive and actually neutralize some of the anesthetics. If the anesthetic effect starts to wear off during the tattoo process, take a break. The silver lining here is that redheads often have a higher pain tolerance than the rest of us, so that's awesome! Redheaded individuals will find that the anesthetic doesn't work as well for them. The anesthetic will last about 4 hours for most people. It'll cost you more to buy cream from legit sources rather than eBay or Amazon, but doing so means you can rest assured that you won't get an infection and that your tattoo won't be damaged. They can cause infection, scarring, the ink can actually be pushed out of your skin.Įven if you decide not to buy your anesthetic cream from us, please make sure you're buying from a reputable source such as or. The anesthetics we sell at Bloody Wolf Tattoo Supply don't interfere with the tattooing process, but please beware of knock-off anesthetic creams. Make sure to wash the skin thoroughly, otherwise the cream can interfere with the stencil, making it too easy to wash off. When it's time for the tattoo process to begin, unwrap and wash the skin using whatever soap the artist prefers. If the cream dries out, it won't work as well, so make sure the plastic wrap stays where it's supposed to be to get the full anesthetic effect. Make sure you cover the entire area that's going to be tattooed, overlapping by about an inch all around.Īfter you've applied the cream, cover the whole area with plastic wrap, such as Saran Wrap. Put it on so it's thick enough that you can see it sitting on your skin. ![]() Anesthetic cream might feel like a lotion, but it has a completely different purpose, so it needs to be applied differently. That would suck, and I'd probably feel bad after laughing hysterically, but I'd still give you the coupon.ĭon't rub the cream in like a lotion. Heck, I'll even give you a COUPON toward your next purchase of numbing cream if you send me the video. If you would like to recreate Kevin's chili scene from The Office, please have someone record that and send it to me because I'd really love to see it! Unless you want to recreate the chili scene from The Office because you can't feel a dang thing after having anesthetized your own hand. You'll need to apply the cream to dry, unwashed skin at least 45 minutes before the tattoo begins.įorty-five minutes may seem like a long time, but remember that the anesthetic needs to fully penetrate the top layers of skin and get to the subdermal layer - that's where the needle and ink is going.ĭon't forget to wear a glove while applying the cream. ![]() It might sound like overkill to start this process an hour before the tattoo begins, but it's worth it! Planning ahead means less pain and frustration for everyone involved. Sometimes it also involves three people, but that's usually not as fun as it sounds. Because really the tattooing process involves at least two people. Although I’d really like to see these features within the Finder itself rather than having to run a separate program that duplicates the Finders functions. This used to be pretty annoying but there is now an option to quit the Finder on launch and obviously one to start Path Finder at start-up which should make the experience of replacing the Finder fairly transparent. Path FInder runs as separate application to the Finder. Especially as I’ve been holding onto the hope that Apple would just buy it and add it to the next release of the Operating System – I live in hope. I’ve never really felt like paying that for something that should be in the OS as standard. I’m going to give it another go as it really is an impressive application that does everything the Finder should do and more, however it is quite expensive at $39.95. As well as Tabbed Finder windows and Dual Pane windows it also has features such as Drop Stacks that allow you to move files from various folders around with ease, a built in Terminal drawer and many many ways to customise your Finder experience. It is a really nice application and has lots of extras built into it. I’ve looked at Path Finder a few times in the past as an alternative to the Finder but never actually decided to buy it. ![]() Total Finder has a 14 day free trial and then costs $15. I’m still testing this application but it seems to address some of the shortcomings of the Finder in a neat an unobtrusive way. TotalFinder also has options that allow you to show hidden files and arrange the contents of windows so that folders are always shown at the top above documents. A handy way to get to the FInder when in any application. It is fixed to the bottom of the screen but has all of the features of a normal Finder window along with those additional features of TotalFinder. Accessed by a keyboard shortcut, when you activate Visor a TotalFinder window pops up from the bottom of the screen above all other windows. TotalFinder also offers a few other features such as Visor, which is s system-wide TotalFinder window displaying at the bottom of the screen. Once you know the keyboard shortcut it is pretty intuitive and easy to use, and something that really should be in the Finder as standard. TotalFinderĪ quick keyboard shortcut also brings up the Dual Pane view which instantly displays two separate Finder windows side-by-side, letting you easily move files from one panel to the other. Perfect for those comparing, copying and moving tasks within the Finder – Except that the Mac OSX Finder doesn’t support his feature. Dual Pane file browsing allows you to view the contents of two folders or volumes side-by-side in one window. Again, finding the two folders you need can be difficult when you have a whole load of Finder windows open. The Finder in Mac OSX is used for file management, this often involves moving and copying files from one place to another. Tabbed windows would make so much sense in the Finder – Quite why it hasn’t been implemented in the OSX I don’t know. The Finder shouldn’t be any different, I often have multiple Finder windows open and trying to find the one I want from a whole stack of them can be a nuisance. ![]() It keeps things tidy and well organised and makes managing multiple windows within in application a breeze. Many other apps that I use on a daily basis such as Photoshop and my text editor Coda also use tabbed windows and it’s something I now come to expect of an application. ![]() Almost all web-browsers offer tabbed windows and it has become a feature we couldn’t live without. We’ve all got used to tabbed windows in our web-browsers. As a bit of an Apple fan-boy it’s not often that I moan about the short-comings of Apple products, the Mac or OSX, but one thing that I’ve wanted for a while in the Finder is tabbed windows and a dual pane function. 9/23/2023 0 Comments Jack o lantern outdoor decoration![]() This cookie is set by GDPR Cookie Consent plugin. If no one makes the lanterns, the traditional folk custom will be lost," said Zou.Now, Zou's two granddaughters as well as his son and daughter-in-law have all joined him in making lanterns."I'm old and feel keen that my abilities fall short of my wishes, but I can still continue to make lanterns for four or five more years," said Zou. ![]() "The real essence of the traditional folk art is released when the light shines through the paper-cuts," said Zou, noting that the lantern shows in big cities seem to only care about appearance while losing the traditional appeal. The amount of time and effort required for lantern-making has led to the dwindling numbers of handicrafters, but Zou still insists on it as he has a deep affection for the traditional handicraft."Sending lights is our local custom and it's quite popular. "Now, we use glue, and it's more efficient."In Zou's eyes, the beauty of traditional lanterns lies in the interaction between light and paper-cutting. Zou said adhesive paste was used years ago, but it would become hard overnight. "If it's too tender, it will easily shrink, and if it's too old, it will easily break," said Zou, adding that the more accurately cut the bamboo is, the better the lanterns will be.Paper-cutting relates much to the design, which usually adopts symmetrical patterns so that the light can better radiate out from the inside. The craft of pasting paper-cuts has been improved in recent years. This year, Zou made about 500 lanterns that were sent out to people from over 120 surrounding villages.Making a lantern usually takes three steps - framing, paper-cutting, and pasting. The lantern frame requires bamboo that has grown for about two years - not too tender or too old. Accompanied by the sounds of gongs and drums, children carry small lanterns while adults shoulder larger traditional lanterns - the "lantern parade" begins. It is lantern handicrafters' persistence that keeps the traditions alive. For Zou, the Spring Festival is the busiest time of the year, leaving him with only three or four hours of sleep after making lanterns all day. In Wenchang, people usually "send lights" to celebrate and express their wishes and expectations, a tradition dating back more than 100 years. When evening falls, the lanterns are lit. 14 (Xinhua) - Holding a small steel file in one calloused hand and a hammer in the other, Zou Hongda finished a thick pile of paper-cutting artwork after a few knocks with his trusty tool.Zou, 73, has been making festive lanterns for over 40 years in Baiyan Village of Wenchang City, south China's Hainan Province. The typical structure of the traditional handicraft includes lanterns with auspicious Chinese characters such as "Fu" and "Xi," which mean fortune and happiness. The Lantern Festival, which falls on Tuesday this year, is the climactic end to the Chinese New Year holiday. 46oYsiVDsfu go. article Handicrafter's 40 years of persistence lights up Lantern Festival /e3pmh1tuv/ed6gjo5k9 HAIKOU, Feb. 9/23/2023 0 Comments Port wine birthmark removalTo learn more about our treatments for port wine stains, contact us today to schedule a consultation. Am I a Good Candidate for Port Wine Birthmark Treatment? Laser treatments are effective for port wine birthmarks by destroying the damaged blood vessels along with potential elevated portions of the birthmark. The more extensive the cutaneous involvement, the more likely the patient may have underlying ophthalmologic, neurologic, or systemic abnormalities. In order to diagnose a port wine birthmark a physical examination is needed. What Should I Expect from Port Wine Birthmark Treatment? It is crucial to know the earlier the treatment, the better the outcome. 1 PWB appears most often on the face and persists throughout life. Occurring in up to 0.5 of newborns, PWB shows no gender predilection and is equally prevalent in premature and full-term infants. In office, there is a device called Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) that can assist in determining the diameter and depth of the blood vessels to better treat the lesion using laser therapy. Port-wine birthmark (PWB) is a congenital slow-flow capillary malformation of the cutaneous superficial vascular plexus. Port wine birthmarks are most commonly treated with laser therapies.
